Web Accessibility Concepts for Beginners

Friday, April 8, 9:45-10:45am

The session will help participants understand the concepts of accessible design and how accessibility features impact the experience of people with disabilities. The session will explain the concepts of landmark regions and heading structure for page navigation and how they are used for page navigation, how users of screen readers view the accessible names and descriptions of links and form controls, and color contrast requirements for people with visual impairments. The session will demonstrate keyboard navigation and selected screen reader features for viewing page structure, form controls, and links, viewing pages in operating system high contrast modes, and use simulators to show what pages look like to people with color blindness.
